Round 8 Preview – Hog Hill

A change of venue for Round 8 of the London & SE Cyclocross League has seen a flurry of work behind the scenes to get everything ready for Sunday the 21st of November. Here’s some info about what to expect from the organisers…

“Lee Valley Youth CC bring you the ultimate Hoggenberg cross. The iconic steepest road climb. Wide open muddy descents. Long stretches of undulating gravel and grassy margins. A testing infield section – No, it’s not the Koppenberg Cross… It’s the Hoggenberg Cross.

We take you from the road circuit, down the favourite once-was-grassy lane, with a bypass of the swamp and right around the wide off-road made trails before bringing you gently to the foot of the Hoggenberg road climb. But we thought it might not be hard enough, so we added the even steeper cut-through.

We know you will enjoy this challenge with nearly a quarter raced on tarmac, not that it makes climbing easy but it leaves more off-road to be taken on the down. Your start is on tarmac and the finish line is right in front of the beautiful purpose-built pavilion. This is proper cross and it’s not too challenging to ride.

Showers, lockers, parking, cafe, wi-fi.

Plus – We now have a BIKE WASH and hose arranged on the condition that it means you keep your worst mud for outside and away from the pavilion and all its paved/surfaced surroundings. You can go straight from your finish into this area for a clean-up. Those who’ve raced please to give priority access to pit-helpers that have riders on course. Pit helpers may only use own jet washes in the area opposite the pit and off the tarmac please.

We ask you not to trail mud unnecessarily into the building and respectfully direct you towards the bike wash area where there are brushes and buckets to get the thick off yourself. And don’t even think of banging your shoes or scooping goop off onto any tarmac or paved area.
– All are welcome to join us on Monday morning to assist with the clean-up we’ve volunteered to allow access for this race on the Hoggenberg.

Address: Forest Road, Hainault IG6 3HR. Nearest tube Fairlop, nearest station Goodmayes. All welcome.

Surplus from this event goes towards the Lee Valley Youth CC, so thank you for coming to our race.”
