New
forum
We have opened a new forum to discuss the AGM - forum
Issues
People have been expressing opinions about the cyclo-cross and the London
Cross League in the forums.
Discussions
have centred upon courses, information and a new structure for next
season.
Fees
The rise in costs across the board by British Cycling will mean higher
levy fees for the League next season - do you mind and how can we keep
race costs down - forum
Courses
Courses have been discussed in 'Sterile courses' - forum
and the London Champs course sparked much chatter, some loved it others
liked the challenge - forum.
The LCCA does review courses and the AGM is a physical forum where decisions
are made.
New
structure
Another matter for the AGM is a possible proposal to make changes to
the League for 2003/2004. This was outlined by Mr Cross in
the forum.
The LC-CA is looking at changing the League financial structure to be
similar to the Surrey League. All costs will be shared across all events
with prize money paid out at the end of the season out of the money
left.
Advantages
1. Organisers will no longer have to worry about making a loss on their
event and we will be able to afford decent venues.
2. Prizes will be consistent at all events - no whinging now that you
didn't get your 6 pounds 50 pence for being third rider wearing red
shoes.
3. The LC-CA will be able to use some of the income to fund projects.
4. Clubs can be paid/rewarded for promoting events instead of taking
a risk for little thanks.
Disadvantages
1. You won't get any prize money until the end of the season.
Any views?
Possible projects for spending a league fund on.
1. Supporting the youth squad.
2. Underwriting Cat A/Nat Trophy and Premier events.
3. More Inter-Area Teams.
4. Youth Development - attracting more kids in to the sport.
5. Coaching Development - more coaches/coaching days.
One response was "The
surrey league formula seems a great idea but there would need to be
some sort of mechanism to allow for the cost of venues, otherwise promoters
of events at expensive venues would still be out of pocket.
Very little money would be left over to fund the worthy suggestions
you have listed".
Another
was from Richard Wood who has his doubts.. "My initial reaction
is that I'm not happy about the proposals. It removes the necessity
for organisers to try to raise grants/sponsorhip/ donated prizes etc
to help fund their events. It could easily bankrupt the league.
It removes the simplicity of one day; everything over; prizes paid out;
done deal. I think riders like it that way. It to some degree penalises
those riders I am trying to encourage to do National Events altough
not if only the best nine results count I suppose.
I struggle to make money at Dover but I consider that my problem. In
the end there is no point in running events if they are not viable.
Robbing Peter to pay Paul cannot be the answer. Generally the league
works well. If it ain't broke don't fix it."
AGM
makes the decisions
Talk to your club, friends or teammates and think about what sort of
league you want.

Vote
Each year we award a few riders, last year we think the Youth Squad
won the 'best ride of the year' vote for dominating the 2002 Inter Area
Champs, what about this year?
1. Most impressive female rider of the season
2. Most improved rider of the season
3. Best ride of the season
