Kinesis UK LDN and SE Cyclocross Rd.1 Stanmer Park
(Sussex League – Round 1)
In the grassy foothills of the South Downs to the north of Brighton, west of the University of Sussex lies Stanmer Park, which gets its name from “Stoney Mere,” meaning “stones around the village pond” – Whilst pondering that you could take in one of the parks guided “bat walks” or explore one of the gardens that produce plants for many other local parks, but if that’s not for you it’s also the now traditional start of the London Cross League.
Anyone who has a decent set of legs left over from a summer’s worth of road racing should highlight this race as a potential good result, but equally it’s an essential first race for anyone looking to hone their ‘cross skills for the rest of the upcoming season – a perfect race to blow the cobwebs away. If you’re new to ‘cross there’s plenty of space for everyone to race and the best bit about ‘cross is that whatever speed you’re racing at, you’ll have some great close battles perfect for beginners and old-hands alike.
Think long grassy uphills, twisty singletrack sections and plenty of close fast racing.
